Opening Thursday 21 March 2024, 6pm - 8pm

Guy Morgan’s inaugural solo exhibition in Canberra at M16 Artspace features his entire ‘Evaporation’ series – comprising oil and acrylic paintings, archival prints and his award-winning ArtScreen 2023 project. Entitled ‘Written with a finger on a steamed-up window’ the video launched at the Museum of Contemporary Art late last year and this be will its first showing outside Sydney.

Guy’s ‘Evaporation’ series is driven by the ephemeral nature of the creative process, from initial ideas and messaging to actualisation, then to audience consumption. It all appears, then disappears.

Conceptually, it’s underscored with the line ‘Aren’t we all a series of thoughts?’

Guy's use of text elicits a deeper reaction than just an appreciation of the visual aspects of his work, and highlights many of the issues Australian artists face in establishing a coherent practice whilst providing an alternative to contemporary methodologies of critique and consumption of art.

Guy will also show works from his monumental ‘Nebula’ series – these large paintings evoke meditation and dialogue with the night sky and are created entirely using an eye-dropper.

Completing this unique and insightful exhibition are original illustrations and archival ink prints from Guy’s first book ‘The Empire sells out’. The publication proposes an entertaining, alternative societal model and is available in hardback and paperback.
