M16 Artspace

M16 Inc. is a not-for-profit arts organisation and artist-run initiative located in the inner south of Canberra.

The organisation is now in its 22nd year and is devoted to the professional development of artists in the ACT. Its aims and objectives are to:

to promote the arts as an intrinsic part of the community, both in Canberra and the surrounding region;
to provide a dynamic and supportive environment for artists, arts groups and arts organisations to practice and exhibit their art; and
to provide access to a working art space and gallery so that the general public can engage directly with the contemporary arts and artists.

In 2002, M16 Inc. moved to a large industrial facility in the general vicinity of the Kingston Foreshore Development precinct. The facility accommodates over 30 artists and 2 community arts organisations in individual studio spaces. There are also two gallery spaces – the M16 Artspace and a more informal foyer gallery – which provide members of M16 the opportunity to market their art practice.

M16 Inc is managed by an elected Board of Management and a number of sub-committees that coordinate the key areas of finance and administration, exhibitions and promotions, building and maintenance, and social and community interaction. A part-time administrator manages the day-to-day activities of the organisation.
